Color Schemes Inspired by the Aegean Sea
We recently travel to Greece and as always, the sights, sounds, architecture and nature we saw was inspiring to be as a designer. We experienced so much, I think it may take me months to unpack it all but I one of the things I most love was our trip to Skopelos and the day we spent sailing on a private sailboat. So on today’s blog I am sharing color schemes inspired by the Aegean sea and the island of Skopelos. Shout out to my friend Jeannette, who arranged the excursion and to Kardous Sailing.
Pure Water Under the Sunlight
The pure water in Skopelos can appear bright turquoise under the bright afternoon sunlight and it pairs with the wooded mountains and pebble beaches so beautifully that it is breathtaking.
In this beach-inspired color palette, I’ve combined these colors to imagine a color scheme that will make you feel like you are on a sunny beach every time you are in a room that uses these colors.
Sea and Sails
One of the best parts of sailing was seeing the sail boats on the horizon. So relaxing and gorgeous to gaze at the horizon between the sea and the sky. From this vantage point the sea looked deep blue instead of bright turquoise. During our trip, the sky was a brilliant blue that reminds you of a perfect summer day.
This one of my travel color schemes inspired by the Aegean Sea is based on the photo I took to capture a sailboat on the sea.
Skopelos Town
One thing I found very interesting was the architecture of Skopelos. While the white-washed walls matched my vision of a Greek isle, the tile roofs and stonework seemed more like Turkish or Spanish vernacular architecture.
Looking at the port of Skopelos, the water looks like a deep blue/green color and the white walls and tile roofs contrast nicely with the green hills. This view inspired the color scheme below
Beautiful Bougainvillea
Bougainvillea, often a beautiful fuchsia color, spilled from roofs in alleys and by homes everywhere on Skopelos. This view from my friends home was stunning with the green grasses, and the blue sea in the background.
Please forgive me, we were busy taking photos of my beautiful daughter and just happened to capture the beautiful color surrounding her, inspiring this color scheme.
Inspiring Sunsets
The sunsets from the hills of Skopelos were also beautiful beyond belief. The green hills, the far-off sea, the rocky cliffs, and mellow sunset colors were soothing and can bring a reminder of a calm and peaceful moment into your home with this color scheme.

Color Schemes Inspired by the Aegean Sea
I live in Minnesota where the winters are long and a beach-inspired color palette might seem a bit out of place but consider using color schemes inspired by the Aegean Sea to bring joy and a connection to nature to a bedroom or sitting room. A little lift in spirits by walking into the next room instead of flying 13 hours seems like a great idea to me.
