The Best Summer Color Schemes-According to LiLu
The Best Summer Color Schemes
Summer is a favorite season for so many people! Across much of the country the landscape changes and temperatures soar along with peoples spirits! Often the pace of life changes too. I little more play, a little less work. In Minnesota, everyone is compelled to make the most of the summer. Seeing the verdant landscape and the open water is inspiring to me as a designer. Summer has it’s own unique color scheme.
Summer Lake Colors
One of my favorite spots in Minneapolis is Lake Harriet with its beautiful band shell. Every weekend there is live music at this beautiful lake. Our city lakes are one of the reasons the quality of life is so high in the city. Leave work and be sailing or running around the lake in a matter of a few minutes. No commute to commune with nature.
Here is a picture I captured a couple of years ago at Lake Harriet. It inspired me to think of this lake inspired color scheme.
Fourth of July Colors
The Fourth of July is celebrated big in my family. We put on red, white and blue clothes and head out to a picnic every year. This is a patriotic color scheme with a little outdoor influence! What better inspiration for the best summer color schemes.
Flower Garden Colors
The beauty of a wildflower garden is always inspiring to me as well. I noticed this beautiful garden at a client’s home the other day. I love purple so the color really caught my eye. I wouldn’t use just these colors in an interior. I would pair them with a sandy or French gray neutral as a foil for these lush colors.
Urban Garden Colors
In another clients garden, in the center of the city, there is this charming spot that reminds me of France. A little café table sits at the edge of a wall at the back of the garden, providing a perfect spot to enjoy the view of the carefully planned herb garden and a cup of tea. The city around you simply disappears. The clay color of the gravel path and the lush variety of greens in this garden are truly the best of summer color schemes.
Verdant Veggie Colors
The other part of summer I enjoy is all the fresh and abundant vegetables. I don’t have my own veggie garden but I do so enjoy going to the plentiful farmers markets in Minneapolis and buying directly from the farmers who grow the food. From root vegetables to beautiful vine grown berries. If you haven’t been to a farmers market this year go this weekend. I hear the corn is good!
