An Easy Way to Create a Chic Indoor-Outdoor Home
What I loved about going to KBIS courtesy of Design Hounds is that I saw vendors and materials I usually wouldn’t have sought out. I would have missed out on some great things if I only visited my favorite, well-known spots. We visited Westlake Building Products at the neighboring International Builders show and it sparked my creative mind! Westlake has finishes that provide an easy way to create a chic indoor-outdoor home.
I didn’t know it, but I was familiar with Westlake because we had used their Eldorado Stone on the home we designed in Hawaii! You can see the entire home here. Upon seeing their cultured stone products, it didn’t take me long to know that they would be wonderful to use both on the exterior and interior of a home and create visual connections between the two zones.
An Easy Way to Create a Chic Indoor-Outdoor Home
I loved the vignettes they had created using cultured brick and could see that your indoor bar could use the same materials as an outdoor kitchen creating perfect flow. Repeating materials throughout a home has always appealed to me. It is a way to have the interior reflect the architecture of the home. It can be a key strategy in having a sense that everything about a home just feels right. Westlake Building Products has created materials that aren’t too overwhelming when used inside and has given us an easy way to create a chic indoor-outdoor home.
Visual Texture Trend
With visual texture trending in interiors, these cultured stones, brick, and wood textures have found their moment to shine. I really appreciated the proportion of the bricks which are made in panels and are as easy to install as siding. I was impressed that you use real mortar to allow designers and architects the ability to use mortar to emphasize texture, highlight color or create a slightly more monolithic look.
Sparking Creativity
I enjoyed seeing all the products at Westlake and they have taken great care to make sure they are responding to what today’s homeowners, designers, and builders are looking for. I know their careful curation of the vignettes they create for the show sparked many creative ideas for me. You may want to take a look at their website and see if they spark a creative idea or two for you!
