May Flowers – Monday’s Peek at a Project

By LuAnne Silvia, ASID
The saying April showers bring May flowers feels especially true this year! There were lots of fresh flowers to fill May Day baskets yesterday after all of the April rain. We recently completed a whole house remodel for clients who wanted a fresh new look. Part of the project included reupholstering their comfortable family room swivel chair in a new fabulous floral fabric. The client fell in love with a large scale floral pattern that quickly became the inspiration piece in the room. Take a peek at the dramatic difference in how the pattern looks depending on which way you apply the fabric. There are many details to consider throughout the design process and one to consider when reupholstering is which way to apply the fabric. Upholsterers work their magic figuring out how many yards they will need and what cuts to match the flow of the pattern on every cushion. With this particular floral fabric we were all surprised what a big difference it made applying the fabric off the bolt or turning the bolt and applying it sideways (railroaded). Either direction would be beautiful, in the end it was about what we wanted to emphasize in the room. We think the end result is a fun more unexpected bold statement!
