Volunteer Work – According to LiLu

Volunteer work is one of the ways we spend our time outside of work. It is one of the things we have in common, a shared value and part of our culture.  We all volunteer in different ways doing a variety of  volunteer work.  Some of the volunteer work we have been doing for years, like Lisa, who has been a troop leader for Girl Scouts since her girls were very young. Some of our volunteer work involves our time and sometimes we utilize our design skills as well. Christina shared a specific project on Monday's blog that was an opportunity for us to share our design skills. Christina has also volunteered her time the last several years helping at Wishes and More's annual Gala. There are so many causes that are near and dear to our hearts. LuAnne has volunteered her time to help a friend with their annual fundraising event for cystic fibrosis and Ally has enjoyed reading bedtime stories weekly to children at St. Joseph's Home for Children. Urban Homeworks is an amazing organization that helps transform neighborhoods through community engagement. We found great joy taking part in their team approach in revitalizing properties into homes.  There are so many opportunities and over the years it has been fun to get involved in various ways.  We have also volunteered our time serving on several committees for our local professional organization, American Society of Interior Designers. Lisa also served as president of our Minnesota Chapter of ASID. Recently Lisa was happy to accept the invitation to curate an exhibit featuring local artisans work at the Inez Gallery in Bloomington. We love working with local artisans and celebrating their unique work. We learn something invaluable every time we take the time to get involved. After all our time is invaluable and being intentional about how you spend it is important.
