More Seats at the Dinner Table: Peek at Project with LiLu Interiors

Expanding the Dinner Table

We know it's 2020 and we know that entertaining larger groups isn't on the list of things to do, BUT we firmly believe that one day their will be the resurgence of the dinner party, and we want you to be ready for it! Today's peek at the project shows how smart design can help you expand the number of seats at your dinner table without having to expand your space.
Meet our young family who have just purchased their first home.  In a smaller, narrow size kitchen we wanted to be able to have a space that will work equally well for the growing family of 3 to having extended family over of 16.  We showed the clients the design of inserting a built in banquette that doesn't just serve as seating but also has 9 deep drawers for extra storage.
The placement of this banquette is near the back door where the family will leave from on a daily basis.  The end of the banquette will double as storage for hats, gloves, mittens etc. The other half can serve as storage for serving pieces, extra linens, even tupperware.  We love designing pieces that don't just look beautiful but also function for the family.
Follow along on how we went from concept sketch to construction documents to install. Be sure to check back for process photos on the rest of the home.  We first shared of this home's decorating project on this blog post here.

From Concept to Construction Drawings

From sketch to exact dimensions this is how we design custom furniture to fit perfectly into your home.  Here is the floor plan of the custom banquette.

From sketch to 3D

We often will help our clients visualize by doing a 3D presentation.  Not only does it help them to see how it will fit into the space but it also helps us as designers to figure out any issues that we may have or work through a complicated design.

The dining table we selected will extend from seating of 4 to seating of 12.  It is the perfect design for family night dinners to holiday celebrations.

Fabric Concepts

We always try to be practical for our clients especially in the kitchen and with young growing families.  When we selected the fabrics for our client we chose vinyl for the seat to have it easily wipeable and for the back cushion fabrics that are durable but also stain resistant.  You will have to check back to see what our client selected!

Installation Day!

More seats at the dining table and we couldn't be more excited for how it turned out.  We even had a young fan who was so excited for their new seating.  On installation day, we show up to make sure that installation goes exactly as it should.

We love to figure out unique situations for each of our clients and this one is a favorite.  A simple solution that offers more seating, more storage and fits right into the house like it was always there.
