Working Smile Power

By LuAnne Silvia, ASID
"Our work-a-day lives are filled with opportunities to bless others. The power of a single glance or an encouraging smile must never be underestimated." -G. Richard Rieger

When you love something, you can't help but smile! Celebrating Labor Day this week I am reminded what a blessing it is in my work as an interior designer that I have many opportunities to incorporate something into each interior that will make someone smile. Something unexpected, quirky, delightful, intriguing, whimsical, magical, mysterious. The details. The obvious, as well as the subtle discoveries. Taking note of something personal. Here are some fantastically imagined, superbly crafted details that have instant and lasting smile power:
Desk, chair and side table by The New Traditionalists
Embossed leather drawer fronts, and the interiors of the drawers are finished in a colored lacquer. Fabulous inside and out.
A hug for this chair leg, makes me smile!
Amazing leather strap and D-ring buckle detail.
Marie Coquine Chandelier by Baccarat. Every chandelier by Baccarat has a signature red crystal...how magical to discover!
While visiting the Ralph Pucci showroom in New York I was skipping around every corner and smiling at the detail found in each one of these pieces:
The upholstered cushion that cleverly wraps around the back of the frame enhances the ultimate lounge effect of this Classic Day Bed by Patrick Naggar
The whimsical shape of the Ondine chair by Vladimir Kagan says smile!

I was playing peek-a-boo with this console by Herve Van der Straeten...'Console Piercing 358'
New from Joseph Jeup, represented at Holly Hunt in Minneapolis
Known for their heirloom quality born from design-centric solutions, I love that! That is worth repeating, design-centric solutions...ahh, smile. Made in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
