Work From Home in Style: Peek at a Project

PEEK AT A PROJECT

Are you one of the many that is still working from home? Do you plan to keep working from home for the foreseeable future? Well, then this blog is for you. Take a peek at this project: Work From Home in Style.
Our client wanted a stylish, clean, well appointed space to work from home. She works from a laptop and doesn’t have lots of paper work. She spends a lot of time on the phone or video calls, so the office needed to look neat, tidy and beautiful.

The Challenges:

  • The space is small, so we needed to maximize space without over filling it, causing it to feel cramped.
  • The space is located in the basement. There is no window in the office, but there is one in the adjacent space.
  • File storage was needed in this small space.

The Space Plan:

We presented multiple options for space plans. In the end, the client chose this one. A desk floats in the middle of the room, facing out of the room toward the pocketing glass doors. Looking out into a larger space helps the tiny office to feel less cramped. It also provides access to the natural light provided by the window in the adjacent space.

Storage:

There are two skinny towers on either side of the door. The bottom has file storage while the uppers are open bookshelves. This way, when looking into the office from outside, there is no visual clutter. You just see the desk and chandelier.

Lighting:

This client wanted a touch of glam. We repurposed her old mini chandelier in this room to add a touch of glam. It makes the view into the office way more interesting. And the light it provides is nice and bright. And on a dimmer. Good lighting in a work from home space is essential!

Other Tips:

We found a beautiful rug for this space that brought in color and grounds the space. It provides a soft surface in the room for visual purposes as well as sound absorption.
The artwork is a poster the client had collected long ago and was saving for the perfect use. We found a fabulous frame for it to elevate it from a poster to a really special piece of art that works perfectly in the room. It’s a great background for a Zoom meeting!
We brought in a live plant to tuck in the corner. Don’t think you can keep a plant alive? A faux plant will do as well. Some greenery can work wonders!
