Wishes and More- Peek at a Project
Here at LiLu Interiors we love to use our creativity to give back to our community and one way we do this by being a part of the decorating committee with Wishes and More.
Wishes & More is a Minnesota-Based, Tax Deductible Children’s Charity that: Enhances the life of a child fighting a terminal or life-threatening condition by providing extraordinary experiences including wishes, scholarships, memorials and more.
Wishes & More creates extraordinary experiences for wish children: The goal of this children’s charity is simple: to grant wishes to children with terminal and life-threatening illnesses and provide hopeful hearts, happy memories and assistance to those who love them.
The decorating committee is 100% responsible for the annual Gala that is a large part of the fundraising efforts for the year. This committee is made up of mostly volunteers including the president and founder, Karla Blomberg and one of the only employees of the Charity, Joelle Gamble. The rest of us all volunteer our time and money to make this the event of the year.
We begin meeting and brainstorming for each gala about a year in advance. We come with a list of themes and begin talking about what would be entertaining, unique and has enough themes within the theme to incorporate such as the entrance, booths, center pieces decorations and so on.
This last year we decided on The 20’s Roar Again since we would be entering the new decade of 2020. Who doesn’t love to dress up in sparkly dresses with feather boas, fedoras, flapper costumes, suspenders…We think the guests loved it just as much.
There are a variety of different ways that Wishes and More raises money at the event. There is your silent and live auctions and then different activities to do as you mix and mingle your way through the crowd. We have a booth that sells necklaces and then raffles a number for a real diamond. The pick your prize booth is where each person wins different items such as a gift card to a local restaurant with a grand prize of an Apple Watch.
The heads or tails booth is where LiLu has maximized our creativity for 7 years. This year we transformed a space into a 1920’s dressing room where each guest with purchase was outfitted either a white fedora hat or a white feather boa. They get to play the game of heads or tails twice to win a grand prize of $200.
We have loved being a part of Wishes and More for many years. Not only do they throw amazing events but the gratitude that pours out of them is like none other. The work the charity does every single day is important and makes a difference. We are honored to work beside them each and every year.
We hope you enjoyed our peek at a project and don't forget to follow us on the Gram @lilumpls for all the updates and continued Peeks into our projects. We love sharing our day to day with you. The progress and the process are half the fun....at least we think so and hope you do too!
