Wenge Stone
By Christina Winter, Allied Member ASID
The fireplace in this condo is one of the featured focal points of the home. In this open layout we wanted the fireplace to have just the right amount of interest. As you move closer to the fireplace, you are taken back by the beautiful texture of the wenge sandstone in a honed vein cut. We laid the tile out with two vertical stripes running down the fire place while the horizontal tiles are laid out in a running bond pattern. Supporting the fireplace on each side are quarter sawn ash shelving that was designed to offset the fireplace and create a symmetrical look. The mantle that runs horizontally is made from a product called Glasskote from Glass Art Design located right here in Minneapolis. Small sparkles were added to the painted finish of the glass to add a dazzle and glamour to the home.
Above is a red lined elevation that was used to communicate between us and the architect. Reviewing each detail is important to ensure the perfect finished look.
The finished fireplace and built ins. The space is designed to support our clients need for storage and visual display for all of her collections. The fireplace draws you in and highlights the surrounding areas.
