“The Cave”

By Lauren Setum, Allied Member ASID
For those of you who have one of these hanging in your home...

I am not telling you to to get rid of it...really! As promised, you can keep this and your big screen TV. After all, a man cave should incorporate the things you love, right? Right. Keep in mind, however, that if your turkey mount takes up 90% of the wall, you should find a bigger wall on which to display your prized possession. Such a grand bird deserves some space to spread its wings.
Scale, proportion, and balance are all key considerations when placing furniture, art, and accessories. Take a look at how LiLu hangs accessories fit for a man cave...

Take a look at some other ideas that will liven up you space...
If the man cave really does have to be in the basement, take advantage of all your space, and make an entrance. Painted stair treads, it's all in the details...

As for under those basement stairs, built ins like these are a great use of space. Imagine the shelves as display space for your favorite collectibles.

And of course, the much talked about sectional and big screen. A few noteworthy details...tables instead of built in cup holders, television that is in proportion with and grounded by a fireplace (could also be built ins or a freestanding cabinet), and well tailored furniture that is still comfy (but not overstuffed).

Finally, I leave you with an option for artwork...a 2-dimensional turkey for those who aren't ready for that 3-dimensional mount. Gobble, gobble!
