From Southwest to Contemporary, A Powder Room Transformation: Peek at a Project with LiLu Interiors
PEEK AT A PROJECT
From Southwest to Contemporary, A Powder Room Transformation
From Southwest to Contemporary, A Powder Room Transformation here is a sneak peek at a remodeling project we recently completed in Arizona. Our client found her forever home in Arizona but wanted something more contemporary than the typical Southwest style. The house had great bones and the right spaces, so we went to work to give it a contemporary update. To see a past blog post detailing the construction phase click here. Read on to see this powder room transformation.
Powder Room Before
Our first impression of the powder room was that it felt very Southwestern and had lots going on for such a small space. With multiple levels of counter tops and a lot of geometry it was overwhelming! This small space needed simplifying. We wanted a strong unifying statement to create drama. In each space we created a focal point by creating a mass of materials. We decided on a palette of beige/gray/black/white. To see the mix of materials throughout the home click here.
Powder Room After
We love drama in a powder room! To create drama in this small room we started with a dimensional wall tile in white. The dimension adds interest and the white expands the small space. Then we contrasted the white with a dramatic black counter top and matte gray cabinets that appear to float. The floating counter tops are contemporary and also expand the small room.
Powder Room Sketch
We started with a sketch of the vanity wall. This is a great way to illustrate the floating counter top concept. We can explore different options by sketching different concepts. Our client loved this idea! So the next step was to draft it to scale.
Drawing to Scale
Once the concept sketch was approved we drafted the elevation to scale. Now is the time to play with proportions and scale. Once everything is just right we get final approval from the client. Next we use this drawing to communicate design with the subcontractors.
Shop Drawings
Once the cabinet shop has our drawing they create a shop drawing. Then we review and make any adjustments necessary. These drawings serve as a way to confirm the design with all the subcontractors. The counter top fabricator and the cabinet shop refer to the shop drawings to create the final product.
Powder Room Before
There were a lot of fun elements in the powder room before, just not our style. To take it from Southwest to Contemporary, we cleaned up the design and changed the color palette. To see another powder room before and after click here And to see a master bathroom remodel click here
Powder Room After
From Southwest to Contemporary, A Powder Room Transformation is complete! The dimensional white tile on the entire wall creates a unified backdrop and focal point wall. The contrast of black granite against the white tile creates drama. Floating counter tops expand the small space. And the glass pendants add a little sparkle.
