Small Bathroom Remodel: A Few Small Updates for Big Change

PEEK AT A PROJECT

Check out this small bathroom remodel we’re designing right now. This small bathroom in the lower level functions well, but it’s look is definitely out of date. We’re doing a few small updates to elevate the look now that the bathroom is getting more use. Small updates, big changes!
What we’re keeping:
The floor tile and wall tile are still in great shape. The white color is so neutral that there is no reason to change it. We’re not moving anything either. The vanity and toilet will stay where they are. The shower will stay exactly the same, except we’ll change out the door to be frameless for a cleaner look.
What we’re updating:
The vanity cabinet has been painted a few too many times and it’s lower than standard height. So we’re going to replace it with a new painted cabinet in a fresh green/blue color.
The countertop is made of tile. This was popular back in the day, but it’s not great from a maintenance standpoint- all that grout to clean! And the look of a tile countertop is a bit out of date as well. A man-made quartz countertop will clean up the look.
For plumbing fixtures, the toilet, sink and faucet are going to go. The dated light fixtures will be replaced with clean lined LED fixtures to provide ample light in the space.
We also decided we don’t need the medicine cabinet, so we’ll go with a decorative mirror to make the space feel less utilitarian. We’ll give the millwork and ceiling a fresh coat of paint as well.
bathroom remodel BEFORE
Since we’re taking a really basic approach to updating this bathroom, we want to make sure we put some kind of special touch. After all, if you’re going through the trouble of remodeling a bathroom, there should be some special feature to spark your interest. For this bathroom, it’s the wall covering. We are doing a Galbraith and Paul wallpaper in a custom color.

Stay tuned to the blog for future updates and install shots of this small bathroom as it transforms from out of date basement bath to cute, fresh guest bath that just happens to be in the lower level!
