Secret Garden-According to a LiLu Client
With grown kids living in Seattle, New York City and the Twin Cities, Christy and her husband Matt envisioned their condo in downtown Minneapolis as a place for the entire family to get together. It was centrally located city living offered lots to do for their two grandkids.
And yet the couple saw retirement peeking right around the corner for both of them.
So they began the process of downsizing. And they hired LiLu to help with the interior design.
“Our current condo had become haphazard over the years,” Christy said. “We wanted a much more thoughtful design.”
As luck would have it, they found a smaller condo unit in the same building. Or so they thought.
“We moved to a smaller condo, but that didn’t work out,” Christy said.
By that time furniture for the smaller space had already been custom sized and ordered. There was no turning back. Fortunately LiLu was up for the task.

“They replanted everything into a space that was bigger than what we had originally planned for,” Christy said. “Some of the things they did I would have never thought to do.”
LiLu was able to repurpose much of the design work for the new-old condo space. We found creative ways to reuse most of the items such as wallpaper and built-ins.
The effort was truly a collaboration with Christy.
“I was so involved in the selection and design process that I would've been sad not to take things with us,” she said.
Christy appreciated the craftsman-level quality of the pieces we selected for her. “Pieces that feel good and look good, when you have that combination it’s much easier to want to take them with you.”

Christy says it was a “pleasure to work with LiLu. They pay attention to what you want, are easy going, and they worked with me in a flurry of moves and activity.”
LiLu’s attention to detail resulted in a space plan that brought the couple’s love of Monet’s Garden into full bloom.
“We wanted that look of lots of flowers in a garden by way of colors. How LiLu assembled the colors and patterns really excited me. It wouldn't have even occurred to those of us who are not expert designers.”
