Minnesota Book Treasures

By LuAnne Silvia, ASID
Far away places are exotic because they are far away, but often there is a breathtaking journey closer to home. During a summer weekend trip to Ely I found myself renewed. The clear cool waters and landscape of Northern Minnesota are like no other. My souvenir book from that trip is a book of photographs by Jim Brandenburg. I met him at his gallery and got my book signed too. When I need a breath of fresh air I flip through pages of natural beauty caught for a moment in time.

The book I own that reminds me of inline skating along the shores of Lake Superior in Duluth is by another Minnesota photographer, Jay Steinke. His photos of outdoor rooms always refresh my perspective. The natural order found in nature and captured on film contains perfect harmony in creating calming spaces. I got this book signed too, I think it adds to the memory when you meet the author and hear firsthand behind their inspiration.
