Minnesota Baseball History

It's a beautiful day for a ball game! Are you lucky enough to have tickets to the 2011 Home Opener? If you do make it to the field this season, make sure you check out all of the history preserved through art. Several artists were commissioned to create pieces for the new field. This sign represents the Minneapolis Millers and the Saint Paul Saints, rival baseball teams that came before the Twins. The design has a very old school feel, creating a sense of connection to the history of baseball in Minnesota.
Make sure to take a look at the mosaic murals by St. Paul artist Craig David that depict historical scenes from the very beginning of baseball in Minnesota. This mural depicts the first Minnesotan to be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame, Charlie Bender, and Toni Stone who played in the men’s Negro leagues. Rather than paint on a wall, this mural is made of cut pieces of stone and porcelain.
Fans love taking pictures by bronze statues of legendary Twins players. These statues were done by Minnesota artist Bill Mack.
So now you know everything you need to know about the design of Target Field. There's just one thing left to do; root for the home team!
