Meet the Maker – Fringe & Fettle Ceramics – According to LiLu

MEET THE MAKER-FRINGE & FETTLE CERAMICS- ACCORDING TO LILU

Meet the Maker-Fringe & Fettle Ceramics

For the July installment of our meet the maker series, meet Joanna Craw of Fringe & Fettle Ceramics.
I fell in love with Fringe & Fettle Ceramics because of the beautifully glazed, sweetly sophisticated, functional ceramic pieces. Craw calls the pieces, "modern heirlooms for your everyday".
Take a look at Fringe & Fettle's website here and Instagram page here.
The last meet the maker blog post from us was about Aronson Woodworks. If you missed it, READ IT HERE, (you'll want to see this!). Remember to join us once a month this year for a meet the maker post.

Inspirational Maker - Fringe & Fettle

On Craw's website, you can find the story of how she began Fringe & Fettle and pursuing pottery full time.
She says, "In 2011 I was working full time when I took a blind leap and quit my job to pursue pottery. I moved up to the north woods of Wisconsin to my family’s cabin and did nothing but make pots for the next 6 months. It was fantastic. Now I am living in the Schmidt Artists Lofts in St. Paul, MN in a community of artists.  And everyday I get to do what I love more than anything else, create".
For us, as creative people, this story inspires. The leap of faith it takes to pursue creative work can be terrifying, but this is just one of many stories where it succeeds!
We love this story because it is a reminder of all the beauty in the world, wherever there are people brave enough to pursue creating beauty, beauty will follow.

Form & Function

Beyond her story, Craw's pottery is impossible not to love.
She says, "I think one of the things I love the most is finding the balance between form and function.  I love the challenge of trying to make something beautiful but also works really well.  My pots are meant to be used and well loved".
As you can see, these pieces are not only gorgeous. They fit into your day-to-day life perfectly, adding beauty to one of the most core processes in life: preparing and eating food!
Craw recognizes the value of this process, too: "My food-focused pieces are influenced by my love of cooking, and made to become an essential piece of your kitchen".

Our Favorite Pieces

To finish, I'd love to feature some of the pieces from Fringe & Fettle I have in my home, how I use them, and why I love them.
The first piece of Craw's I ever had was these gorgeous stacking bowls. They are beautiful and serene to look at, with a gorgeous glaze on each simple, clean bowl. These bowls are great for cooking, with their varying sizes. They can also be used for serene decoration, and make great gifts.
The second piece I acquired was one of these adorable honey pots. I love everything about this piece, and seeing it on my windowsill is a bright spot in each day. Adding honey to my tea from this piece makes the cup that much better!
Finally, I recently gave this gorgeous tree mug as a gift to a friend. I love the design of this mug, and its size makes it feel sturdy and perfect to hold in your hands.
