LiLu Menagerie: A Different Kind of Project
By Christina Winter, Allied Member ASID
Here at LiLu we love to use our creative talents in many ways and one of those ways is to give back to charities by donating not only money but our time. We had the opporunity again this year to participate in Wishes and More's Annual Gala. It is a night that only comes once a year and it is a chance to dress up, bid on exciting prizes, hear wonderful stories of wishes being granted to children and teens and truly see the genorsity that is out there! One thing I love about working with the Wishes and More community is that they always begin planning for the Gala with a concept. It is a great reminder that we are all working toward the same goal and makes planning for the event that much easier.
The 2013 Gala was called Wild About Wishes! LiLu was in charge of designing one of their booths that host the Heads and Tails game. So, just like any design we brainstormed ideas and sketched out thoughts of how this would work. We wanted an area that would "host" animals and have them appear as if they were in the jungle. Menagerie is defined as a form of keeping common and exotic animals in captivity that preceded the modern zoological garden. So, with these things in mind...we got to work!
Above is a concept sketch for how we could build an animal cage out of PVC piping and 2 x 4's.
Frame built
Booth Assembled...It stands and is sturdy!
Spray Painting all the wood and piping!
Check back on Wednesday for a look at the item we gave away to play Heads or Tails!
