Light and Bright Feels Just Right—Friday’s Look of the Day
Joan epitomizes the moniker, “hostess with the mostest”.
Imagine a home where you feel welcomed from the moment you walk in the front door. And then you hope the moment never comes when you have to leave. Friends, family and even visiting authors and opera artists have been the recipients of Joan’s lavish hospitality. Maintaining a warm, inviting, and beautiful home for entertaining is one of this couples’ priorities.
After our recent remodel with Joan, the great room is light and bright, featuring two large sofas that anchor the seating areas on both ends of the room. Original pieces of furniture were covered in neutral fabrics that emphasize texture. Accessories inject color and detail into the space. The dining area invites guests to pull up a reupholstered chair and enjoy long conversations around the custom-designed table. A large area rug stretches across the floor as a natural centerpiece of color and pattern. It’s one of several, including the whimsical take on a tree of life, that are custom-designed for the space.
When Joan isn’t hosting, she enjoys a home that supports her need for a comfortable sanctuary away from the hustle and bustle of life. She enjoys needlepoint, reading, and hosting her grandchildren. In short she enjoys the great indoors.
Family is a priority and offering a gathering place for her loved ones to come together on the holidays and special occasions was a significant consideration for this recent update. Everyone needed a place to sit downstairs, while making sure the upstairs offered a comfortable place to retreat.
The guest room was updated to be more inviting for returning adult children and their spouses. Previous furnishings were replaced with nightstands and a large, custom bed that more closely complement the sophisticated feel of the rest of the home. The den doubles as a sitting area for quiet activities like reading and needlepoint away from the more active great room. It also serves as a nursery for visiting grandchildren and is adjacent to the guest rooms. Peter Pan inspired the design of the den, complete with some wonderful needlepoint accessories created by Joan.
