Happy Holidays

By LuAnne Silvia, ASID
I was thinking about what to post today, something related to the holidays and interior design. Our last blog entry of 2010 until we return after the new year. "How to Rearrange The Furniture to Make Room for Your Christmas Tree" was a fleeting thought. It didn't sound very interesting to read, or to write about.
As I was opening holiday cards and photos I received a letter that inspired an idea of what to share. The letter was a joy to read and a reminder of what the holidays are all about. As we break from our daily routines in the studio to spend time with family and friends, here are a few excerpts from the letter to savor that have nothing to do with design but everything to do with inspiration, complete with random quotes worth pondering.
Our friend writes: "Been thinking a lot this year about blessings, providence, compassion, tolerance and generosity. Been thinking a lot about happiness, perspective and legacy... Remembering that a smile or small act of kindness can be more uplifting than anything money can buy."

When you are describing a shape or sound or tint;
Don't state the matter plainly, but put it in a hint;
And learn to look at all things,
With a sort of mental squint. - Lewis Carroll

Humor is, if one laughs nevertheless. - Otto Julius Bierbaum

Haul the sheet in as we ride on the wind
That our forefathers harnessed before us
Hear the bells ring as the tight rigging sings
It's a son of a gun of a chorus - Jimmy Buffet

Always remember: If you're alone in the kitchen and you drop the lamb,
you can always just pick it up. Who's going to know? - Julia Child

If the world was perfect, it wouldn't be. - Yogi Berra
