Friday’s Look of the Day

By LuAnne Silvia, ASID
Friday's look of the day I wanted to share a fun post featured in F. Schumacher & Co.'s newsletter about one of their newest collections. I love the classic, crisp bold patterns and of course the tie into fashion...
As posted in Schumacher July 2013 Newsletter:
From the Runway to the Interior: Black and White Wallcoverings from Martyn Lawrence Bullard

The graphic power of black and white is a major theme in our Martyn Lawrence Bullard wallcovering collection. Inspired by his love of world travel and combined with his impeccable fashion sense Martyn has created a collection that is exotic, playful and sexy.
Martyn was taken by the striking effect of the black and white story on the recent Spring 2013 runways. “Black and white is on every runway right now. It is the strongest color palette in fashion. So why not bring it into the home as well?” he explains. “It really freshens the entire collection. And that to me is what it’s all about. It’s about freshening up your life with fun wallpaper.”

With his discerning eye, Martyn unites this fashion trend with the Old World style he fell in love with during his travels, a feat exhibited perfectly in the design Fez. “One of the inspirations for the collection was this wonderful chevron which is a very high fashion design at the moment. It was actually taken from, and I was inspired by it, the floor of the Taj Mahal,” Martyn says.

Though each paper is completely distinct, the collection allows for limitless layering and provides a dose of whimsy. As Martyn puts it, “I love the idea of  having fantasy take flight with this collection.”
