Downsizing Your Home Doesn’t Need to Mean Giving Up Kitchen Amenities

For this couple, the transition to a smaller home was a wise choice during their empty nest years. However, they weren't ready to give up all of the kitchen amenities that had come with their larger abode, including a kitchen remodel I designed for them 20 years prior- which is why they soon approached us for help! We were happy to tell them that downsizing your home doesn't need to mean giving up kitchen amenities.

We assured them that downsizing doesn't need to mean giving up comfortable cooking spaces-- and got right down designing an interior solution specifically catered towards making room in their new smaller space; without compromising on storage or countertop areas. Our clients couldn’t be happier now when friends and family drop by— no more daily stresses while preparing meals!

Identifying Problems and Designing Solutions

After settling into their new home, they realized the kitchen needed some work. To solve this challenge while maintaining the size of its footprint, we created a pantry wall with extra storage. We added on a peninsula that could double as an informal eating space or countertop preparation area for big meals - perfect for whipping up tasty treats!

Elevating the Downsized Kitchen

We gave the space a modern facelift by removing dated soffits and replacing them with extra storage. We also included inserts that maximize the function of each drawer, giving their home ample room for spices, cutlery, and pots & pans - ensuring no inch was left unused! To make aging-in-place easier, doors were added below countertops to give easy access to items in base cabinets.

Downsizing Doesn't Mean Giving Up Style or Amenities

This couples' kitchen is not just functional, it's luxurious--a large one-bowl sink ensures easy clean up after baking and roasting sessions. Stylish Caesarstone countertops deliver durability while elegant lighter finishes make the space appear larger than life. Plus an artful hand glazed tile in their favorite colors creates a truly unique atmosphere full of personality! It's true, downsizing your home doesn't need to mean giving up kitchen amenities.

I love how you used the soffits for storage and all of the inserts that allow them to stay organized and maximize space, Lisa.

    Beautiful job!
