Custom Master Bedroom Fireplace

by Ally Evander, Allied Member, ASID
Happy Monday everybody! Here is a look at a fireplace we are designing for a client. This couple has a Master Bedroom with great views of a lake... but not much else going on. They asked us to design something to help make it a retreat space for them. We decided it needed a little architectural interest, so we are adding a new fireplace.
Here's the before photos. A beautiful window (for which we are designing some window treatments that will better frame the view, but that's another post for another day!):

Here's the wall where we will be framing in a new fireplace to create warmth and a retreat like feeling in the Master suite:

Here's the sketch we've done to present the idea to the client:

We've selected a Nadeau tile because it can be completely custom. We picked the pattern and the colors we wanted to use in that pattern. We selected Nova Gold stone to reference to the sandy tones we are using throughout the house, a blue rippled glass to reference the waters of the lake, and a Calcutta stone to bring in an unexpected pop of fresh white.

A project like this means getting a contractor involved. We will need someone to build out the walls, someone to install the gas fireplace insert and make sure it is properly vented, and someone to install the tile and hearth stone. We are currently in the bidding phase, but when it's done, it is going to be gorgeous and provide a much needed second focal point in the room.!
