California Casual Living Room Reveal – Peek at a Project
Floor Plans - California Casual Living Room
This week, we are updating you on our California casual living room design. It's time for the big reveal! We first wrote about this project here, and now it's time for an update!
First of all, our clients decided on a floor plan that works best for them.
This floor plan has the lounging space they need for their young family, which doubles as a great space for entertaining, too. It also supports the real, day-to-day life of a young family in an older home. Our client's children usually want to be upstairs near their Mom during the day, so playtime will usually happen in this room. There are even spots to stash toys when company comes!
In addition, we hung a television over the fireplace to create a perfect family vibe, and we used carpet cut to the custom size the rug should be, creating a balance of style and budget.
Custom Touches
To customize this California casual living room, we did a few custom touches.
For one, we had the sectional built to a custom size, to fit the room and leave circulation space.
We also created custom drapery to fit the room. It will be hung just beneath the cove. It's full enough to add a casual chic softness that is perfect for our clients.
We love creating tailored, custom moments for our clients. For this project, we chose the final paint color on-site, to ensure it worked with the fabrics in the room's natural light and worked with the existing stone fireplace in the space.
Final Room
For the finishing touches on our California casual living room, we kept a lot of things in mind.
We focused on neutrals with touches of blue for the color scheme and included plaid as a nod to a more traditional Minnesota look. Flannel and the north go together far too well!
Making sure to keep our client's lives with their children in mind, we chose a round table with a rope finish, which is totally kid safe! We also selected indoor/outdoor fabrics, which are more practical for family life but still have a casual chic look, matching the vibe of the rest of the space.
Finally, we chose chairs with arms as a fun reference to the mid-century age of the home, which are also a comfortable seat for grandparents who visit often.
The final room turned out to be the perfect family gathering space, which was the perfect balance of casual and chic!
