Bringing Intention Home-Being THE place
By Lisa Peck, ASID
One of the things we focus on at LiLu Interiors is helping our clients have homes that support living the life they intend to live. The holidays are coming up and it reminds me of the many clients who come to our first meeting with the primary intention of having their home be THE place where family, friends gather. Especially at the holidays having the right space, the right storage, the perfect kitchen allows your home to be the center of activities. Here are some key things to consider when attempting to design a home that is perfect for entertaining.
1) Does you kitchen have space for guest to hang out comfortable and help cook or just chat during meal prep?
2) No matter your "style" do you have a dining table and chairs that ask guests to linger at the table and chat?
A table that extends to fit the whole group and provides a simple background for your personal expression of the event through china, dishware, accessories and center pieces is a key element of a great dining space. A chandelier that creates a sense of place bring your personality into the mix. Chairs that are comfortable and fully upholstered ask guests to linger at the table and chairs handed down for generations bring a sense of history to your dining room.
A window seat or settee in a dining room can extend the group with tray tables for casual dining.
3) After your meal, will you gather in a family room to watch the game or go to the living room for a chat, game or working on a puzzle? Think about the experience you want your guests to have and intentionally create the feeling you want your guest to have.
Warm textures, soft cushions and different types of seating welcome guest to lounge, cuddle and kick-back.
A bar in the family room allows drinks and snacks to be served. A carefully arrange seating area lets your guests enjoy both the fire and some football.
