Blue and Gold Color Scheme + A Sylvie and Mira Giveaway
I recently wrote a blog about color schemes to freshen up your home for fall but there was one color combo, I felt deserved a blog of its own. A blue and gold color scheme is classic and brings both vibrance and a sense of calm to any interior.
Before I go on about why blue and gold are a great scheme for almost any room in your home, there’s giveaway info at the bottom of the post! Don’t miss out.
We are partnering on this giveaway with Deborah Von Donop of DVD Interior Design, a fabulous interior designer and blogger, I met on Design Blogger’s Tour last year. Read Deborah’s take on Blue and Gold color schemes and get more inspiration!
Blue and Gold: A Classic Color Scheme
Blue and gold is a classic combination that feels right for this fall for several reasons and one is simply that it is classic. If you are thinking about making changes to your color scheme right now going for something classic can be comforting. I remember the home I grew up in had a bedroom and family room with blue and gold color schemes. Being surrounding by a classic, familiar look can give you a sense of stability and for me evokes a time that was simple and happy. That’s a great feeling for your home to give you.
I write about how your home should feel like a haven and this color scheme, and the psychology of these colors can create the feeling of a haven.
The Psychology of Blue
Blue is a color that evokes calm and serenity. The deeper blues that we are showing here are also colors that express stability, trust, and wisdom. In addition, blues feel connected to nature. Oceans, lakes, rivers, and skies are all shades of blue. Connecting the color in your home to nature is a way to calm the nervous system.
The Psychology of Gold
Gold is a vibrant, energetic color that is associated with quality and luxury. Gold can be metallic which is an earthy element, again referencing nature. When you combine gold as an accent with blue you create the same feeling as seeing the sun shining in a blue sky.
A Home Office in Blue and Gold
Using a blue and gold color scheme in a home office in more equal amounts would be a successful interior design strategy. The blue brings calm and wisdom to this space where you are endeavoring to learn or earn, and gold is vibrant and energetic. The perfect balance to bring to this all-important room right now.
A Classic Kitchen
Blue cabinetry with brass hardware and light fixtures and marble or quartzite counters is quickly becoming the darling of the fresh traditional kitchen repertoire. Here we matched it with a fresh take on an encaustic cement backsplash tile from Popham tile for the “fresh” touch. I could happily pass a Saturday baking in a kitchen with a blue and gold color scheme.
Speaking of kitchens, check out DVD Interior Design's portfolio for more fabulous kitchen inspiration and more.
A Luxury Bedroom
As we’ve previously said, blue is a calming color, so perfect for a bedroom where the entire goal is to relax. For a bedroom, we think that a navy headboard sets the tone for navy as the dominant, serene color in the room, and using a few accents of brass and gold velvet with crisp whites would give a classic luxe look to any bedroom
Blue and Gold Living Room
Here we’ve paired a deep, slightly teal blue with an earthy, ochre gold. This unexpected color shift updates the classic navy and gold. We’ve featured our giveaway Sylvie and Mira Pillows in this scheme so you can see how you can use these in a neutral background room for an updated fall look!

What a fun idea for a giveaway, Lisa! I can’t use blue and gold pillows, but I think Deborah Main could definitely find a place to fit them in her new living room that she’s redoing for the #ORC!
