PEEK AT A PROJECT

The background story for this Warm Contemporary Master Bedroom

We started working with an empty-nest couple a year ago to come up with remodeling plans for their current home which did not support the way they wanted to live. It didn’t have enough storage. The kitchen was too small and did not allow for gracious entertaining. They wanted more luxurious touches such as a bigger master bedroom with walk in closets, fireplace and outdoor hot tub. We came up with some really cool and creative plans for making all of their wish list happen. But ultimately, they decided to move as the remodel might price them out of the market in their location.

Part two: They found a new house on the Mississippi river with AMAZING views from every room. It also checked off most items on their wish list: A large master suite with closets and bathroom. A hot tub with a fantastic view. More storage than they could ever fill. A lot more space for family gatherings and entertaining. The only problem is that this house wasn’t their style. It was super contemporary, while their preferred style is somewhere between contemporary and transitional.

Side note- We often help empty nest couples create homes that support their intentions for a new phase in life. Here are some of our past projects

The design problem

These clients hired LiLu Interiors again to create material schemes, color palettes and select furnishings to make their new house feel like their home. As part of the overall project, we designed a luxurious master bedroom that married the contemporary architecture of the home with the clients’ more transitional style. We made sure not to distract from the main event: the beautiful view of nature. We’re calling it a Warm Contemporary Master Bedroom. Nature-Inspired, Clean Lined, and Luxurious.

The design direction

We created multiple furniture mood boards to show our clients how the finished space could reflect a Warm Contemporary look. Option A was the most traditional of the three looks, and a bit more masculine. Option B was a bit more feminine with lighter lines. And Option C was somewhere in between masculine and feminine, with elements that repeated the contemporary leanings of the architecture.

The final design solution

Here are the final mood boards showing the end result of our clients’ selections! The empty-nest couple chose mostly option A, but traded in a bench and a side table from other mood boards. Because we offer our clients custom solutions, we will select a fabric and a wood or metal finish for each piece of furniture. (So please ignore the heavy finishes that everything is pictured in! We’ll lighten it up to give it a more airy feel!) The furnishings along with the fabrics and color palette chosen (that’s a whole other blog for another day!) help to create the Warm Contemporary space these clients were hoping for. We can’t wait to show you the installation photos in a few months!
