Peek Into Our Most Popular Outdoor Spaces

Why are Outdoor Spaces Popular?

This past year we have designed more patios, decks, and balconies for clients than ever. Clients who had previously thought of their outdoor spaces as afterthoughts started to think of these spots as valuable ways to expand their living spaces. Once you have experienced the joy of outdoor living, you don’t want to go back. Now that spring is upon us, we are once again looking to the outdoors as an opportunity to enjoy our homes in a different way. We are sharing a peek in our most popular outdoor spaces with you to inspire you to think of your backyard, deck, or patio in a new way.
How do we track which space is popular? We used how many people visit these projects on our website, liked them on Instagram, or pinned them on Pinterest. But instead of making you search all these platforms for these gems, we’ve rounded them all up on the blog for you to see in one place.

Outdoors in Hawaii

One of the most popular outdoor spaces on our website is this beauty in Hawaii. Wouldn’t we all love to be here? Our role in this project was wide-ranging. The tile from the inside of the house extends directly out of the home to create a connection between the interior and the exterior of the home. We selected all the materials for the space including the tiles, stone, capstone, and pool edging. We also worked closely with the mosaic artist who created the marlin and sea turtles on the floor of the pool to select the colors and tiles for these. For the outdoor kitchen, we also selected the countertop, backsplash tile, and all the appliances.

Lakeside in Minnesota

One of the features that are always popular in an outdoor environment is water and in Minnesota, we have plenty of water. At LiLu we have the privilege of working with many homeowners who live on a lake or river and making the most of the view then becomes the thing. These outdoor spaces all have views of a lake. The home has dining spaces, lounging spaces, and a fire pit that all take advantage of the view. Lake living is always popular. For these spaces, a landscape architect created the outdoor “rooms”, and our role was selecting the furnishings and fabrics that support the way the spaces are used.
With lakeshore, this is one of our most popular outdoor spaces for a reason.

Poolside in Minnesota

Outdoor living can even happen in the city. This private oasis in St. Paul features a pool, pool house, dining space, and outdoor living room complete with a fireplace. For the summer months, you can do all your entertaining outdoors. The landscape architect and architect created all these fabulous spaces. Our role was designing the furnishings and sourcing fun fabric to add a vibrant, fun vibe to these entertaining spaces. We even designed a custom daybed that allows as many people as possible to enjoy the fire while keeping the connection between the living and dining spaces.
You might be noticing a pattern that many of our most popular outdoor spaces feature water in some form.

Our Most Popular Outdoor Deck Space

Almost every suburban home has a deck and this one is located on a beautiful wooded lot. The rocking chairs and ottoman make this simple deck for two a great spot to have your morning tea or enjoy a quiet conversation with a friend.

Outdoors and Up North

In Minnesota, we love our cabins and living close to nature and this home is the epitome of up north beauty. Designed by Marc Sloot of Sala Architects with interiors by LiLu. These outdoor spaces from deck to firepit have been popular on Pinterest and our website where we have included it in the category “Artful Living”. These images evoke relaxed weekends at the cabin looking out at the lake and having a ramble through the woods. Our clients get to enjoy this home year-round. See the entire project here.
