How We Brought an Outdated Lake Home from Tired to Nature-Inspired!

LAKE HOME TRANSFORMATION: PEEK AT A PROJECT

LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION!

Our clients purchased an outdated lake home because they were excited about the location- on a beautiful lake so close to the shoreline you could almost touch it! They always envisioned living on a lake and all the outdoor activities that come with lakeside living.

The Vision

This is where LiLu enters the story. As excited as they were about their new lake home, the home itself didn’t reflect their style or how they envisioned living. They imagined welcoming their grown children home for family gatherings and entertaining groups of friends, but the home was made up of smaller separate rooms that weren’t connected and didn’t flow. And the home didn’t take advantage of the lake views or access to the outdoors. The dark oak interior felt oppressive rather than light filled, and disconnected from the lake.

Space Plan Solutions

We were able to imagine their lake home transformation, opening up the main floor space plan. The kitchen, dining area, and family room are now one open space. We created several areas where friends and family could gather, starting in the kitchen. LiLu opened up the space and designed a large kitchen island with seating that brings everyone closer to the lake. We added a desk area under the window that serves as additional counter space. Their existing square dining table anchors the center of the open floor plan. The family room steps down from the dining area, and to create flow between the spaces we designed a bar that serves both spaces. Seating on one side and a prep area on the other complete with a sink, fridge and storage.

Fresh Finishes

With the functional flow established throughout the main floor, we updated the finishes to reflect a modern interior. We replaced the brown oak with white cabinets and trim, adding bold blue color in the island cabinetry and the bar backsplash. White quartz countertops, Weathered Nickel hardware, a Copper bar sink and metal light fixtures complete the transformation of this outdated lake home into a modern lakeside retreat.
