PEEK AT A PROJECT

As part of a whole room redo, LiLu Interiors got to redesign this dated-looking fireplace. Here’s a look at how we helped our clients solve the problem of a somewhat unsightly fireplace with a custom solution designed just for them. (We’ll show you the rest of the room later, but we’re not giving it all away in one blog post!)

Scale:

The room is large and we wanted the fireplace to feel grand, but not overpowering. All of the components of the fireplace were taken into consideration to better balance it’s scale within the room. In the new design, there is much more stone around the firebox (which stayed the same size). The wood surround is also more significant in proportion to create presence and balance.

Finishes:

The fireplace is lighter looking overall because we chose lighter finishes rather than creating a heavy statement with dark finishes. The natural stone and painted and glazed mantel give the room a visible lift.

Interior:

We even changed the interior of the firebox. We used a creamy colored herringbone tile to elevate the look. The previous firebox was simply blackened blocks. The new tile creates a lovely backdrop for the main event- cozy, toasty fires!

Gas Logs:

We changed out the gas log set so it looks more updated and full. There’s nothing that kills a fireplace more than cheesy looking faux logs. Pro-tip: take the time to do your research when selecting a gas log set. See it in person at a local showroom before buying because there are lots of not-so-realistic looking products out there.
