Convenient Interior Design-What Now? How is That?-According to LiLu

Convenient Interior Design-What Now? How is that?

You only need to know what the problems are…not the solution

When you work with a full-service interior designer, you only need to know what your problems are; you don’t need to come up with the solutions…how convenient. Most of us can easily tell you what doesn’t work in our homes.
The list might include:
-Not enough storage
-Not enough seating in one room to hold book club or host holidays
-A tiny Master bathroom
-My family is growing but my home is not
-I’m in a new phase of life but my home doesn’t support it
-I am tired of looking at the outdated (name of room here)
That’s right…Convenient Interior design is about how to solve the problems with your home! Once you hire an interior designer, you no longer have to struggle with how to solve the problem.
They will interview you, look at any inspiration photos you have, and in our case, have you fill out a questionnaire, these steps are all part of the process so that we can solve the problem for you.
We take on all the thinking and planning for you. You get to do the fun part! Because we are working on the details of how to create the best solution to your particular problem, you free up emotional energy and time to spend on the things that matter more to you.
We’ve written an entire blog post about how designers are creative problem solvers. Please check it out here.

Spend zero time searching the web.

When designing or decorating, it can be tempting to think you can recreate a look by finding some inspiration on Pinterest or Houzz and just shopping online to and find similar things. It could work, it might work, if your home looks exactly like the image you find and has a similar floor plan. But the truth is it probably doesn’t. Pinterest has made it so convenient with their lens feature. But here is the reality, Pinterest and online shopping is a rabbit hole. Once you go down that path you find yourself in a warren of immense proportions from which you may never return.
This is where the term convenient interior designer becomes clear. The fact is working with a professional will save you endless time and confusion. Here is a recent example of a lens search of one of our projects on Pinterest. Yikes! These items don’t look very similar, even if they were, getting the scale, color and materials just right for YOUR room would be tricky. Your room might not be exactly like your inspiration photo. And then you’ll have the hassle of returns and selling things you can’t return at a fraction of the cost. When you work with a professional interior designer there is the built-in convenience of knowing you can’t make a mistake. So, you won’t find yourself having to deal with returns and loss of money on bad purchases.
While we wouldn't shop on Pinterest, we do recommend finding inspiration there...follow us here for inspiration!

Spend zero time at the local paint store or big box store.

I don’t know about you, but I break into a sweat thinking about going to a big box store and finding my way to the right aisle to look at things. I was recently in a local paint store when a customer asked, “What is the difference between these two paints?” I was shocked when the clerk answered, “One is more expensive than the other”
As a professional interior designer, I know that one paint has more pigment in the mix, was low VOCs and perform better when little hands (or big ones) leave stains.
The inconveniences and long-term impacts of poor advice and poor customer service are innumerable. I imagine based on the brilliant response of the clerk, one might buy the less expensive paint and find oneself repainting in a year or so when wear and tear make it impossible to live with the poor choice anymore.
LiLu Interiors designers get to know you and offer the best choices for all materials based on your budget and lifestyle, so you don’t waste your time looking at inappropriate choices.
In addition, we would make sure all the pros and cons are considered and discussed so well informed decisions are made. Meeting with you, in your home and at your convenience. No dragging kids to a store only to be met with “meh” service.

Spend zero time finding painters, electricians, handymen to help you get things done.

Having a combined 70 years of experience in the interior design industry means that the interior designers at LiLu have developed relationships with general contractors, painters, electricians, drapery workrooms and more. We have a strong rapport with all of these artisans and contractors and work with them on a regular basis. Whether you are building a new home, remodeling or doing a smaller redesign we can refer you to the right person to implement your project.
You don’t need to search online or ask neighbors because we have done the vetting for you. Keep in mind; we always enjoy meeting new resources so we would also love to work with your favorite contractor.

Spend zero time meeting tradespeople and installers at your home.

If you are a busy individual, (and who can say they aren’t?) the convenience  full-service interior designers, like LiLu Interiors offer, is meeting tradespeople and contractors at your home to gather bids, discuss details and ensure that everyone has communicated both the design and the expectations for execution correctly.
In addition, we will meet tradespeople on site once the work is underway to answer questions or ensure work is being implemented correctly.
Have you noticed a common theme here? You are saving time to spend on the things you want to and leaving the heavy lifting on your home project to a team of professionals.

Convenient Interior Design-See selections in your own home.

Another convenience of interior designers is that LiLu Interiors uses our creativity to carefully design and curate the finishes and furnishings for your space. We customize your home to be a direct reflection of your intentions, interests, style, and values.  We meet with you at your convenience, often in your own home or at your office (if that works for your schedule).
In every presentation, we use materials, fixtures and furnishings from multiple resources. We may have visited 5-10 showrooms to put together a kitchen, bathroom or living room scheme. The convenient part for you? You just meet with us once to review all of the selections. No need to spend hours running from stone yard, to tile showroom to furniture store.
You don’t need to struggle with what goes with what and try to compose a material palette or furnishings plan, LiLu Interiors does that for you and then you can give us feedback if some things need to be adjusted or changed. A complete plan that you can see together is easy to react to and you can feel confident moving forward.
While custom design doesn’t happen quickly, the level of service is high. We work to make sure every finish and fabric will look beautiful in the light in your home and will function just the way you need it too.

Comments on Convenient Interior Design-What Now? How is That?-According to LiLu
  1. Kari says:

So many excellent points about hiring a designer! I’m still in shock at the remark from the paint clerk’s comment.

  2. TeresaMorgan says:

Convenient! This is so true. The paint store clerk is a good example of what the general public thinks about interior design and decorating. They are doing their employer a disservice by not understanding or communicating the difference in paint and why one is more experience. Thank you for sharing!

  3. Linda Merrill says:

Such a clear description of all that goes into a project and how a designer saves the client from all the mundane tasks! Why wouldn’t someone want it all brought to them?

  4. Carla Aston says:

Such good content here. It’s sometimes more revealing to relate what a client won’t have to do, isn’t it?

  5. Mary Ann Benoit says:

Excellent points of how a designer can make your life easier, save you from making expensive mistakes and allow you to do the things you are good at and enjoy while the designer does what they are good at and enjoy!

  6. Leslie Carothers says:

This is really an excellent post, Lisa! Any potential client of yours reading this post will have an immediate understanding of how much money, time and stress you will save them if they hire you professionally. In addition, they will LEARN so much, and that learning, at least to me, is a very valuable aspect of hiring a designer, too. I enjoy learning and so, part of the value in hiring an interior designer, for me, would be that I would get an education in craftsmanship, in the real differences between paints, etc.

  7. Deborah Main says:

The best thing about this post besides all the extensive examples you give, is the title. Awesome title!!! And boy, do you do an excellent job laying out the benefits of Hiring an Interior designer!

  8. Mitzi Beach says:

This is one of the very best posts that I have read on marketin to regular, every day homeowners! You described exactly what has happened even to me when I get into Pinterest search so I know how confused our homeowners can become which often leads them to just making a decision t get it all over with quickly.
Convenient Design, this is truly genius and I am so grateful that you shared this with us. As a designers who is reseting her life in almost all areas, I am process how I might incorporate this as my own consulting “handle”. Is this okay or would I be raining on your creative parade or hook for most of normal homeownes?

    1. LiLu Design Team says:

Share away…all boats rise with the tide, Mitzi!

  9. s ggem says:

Well said, spending 0 tim in the box box store is my FAVORITE!

  10. KaSonndra says:

You did an awesome job with this post! The details you presented more than adequately cover the rising question of “why do I need a designer?” Even with so many DIY design programs popping up everywhere, our clients still need the contractual expertise that a pro interior designer provides. Sharing this on my pinterest page

  11. Janet Lorusso says:
