Coastal Casual Outdoor Design: Peek at a Project

PEEK AT A PROJECT

Take a peek at these Coastal Casual design schemes we created for a client’s outdoor screened porch project. If you’ve been following our blog, you know that we like to present our clients with three options for a space. In this case, we presented four furnishings groupings as options for their outdoor screened porch. The porch features an outdoor fireplace with a seating area centered around it. The other side of the porch features an outdoor dining table. Which furniture grouping would you pick? Follow along as we explore each of them.

Coastal Casual Outdoor Design Scheme A:

Option A features a wicker and teak finish combination on the seating pieces. The side tables are easy-care faux stone and metal. We balanced them with a teak dining table that is extendable for larger groups. Next, we love how this scheme repeats curves. The scoop arm on the seating pieces is repeated in the swoop of the coffee table. The oval shape of the dining table and the back of the dining chairs also repeat the curves. Plus, the outdoor French bistro chairs are fun and unexpected.

Coastal Casual Outdoor Design Scheme B:

In Option B, we used a wicker sofa and chairs with a teak arm. The X base coffee table is all teak as is the extendable dining table. The dining chairs feature a rope like woven material and custom fabric seat cushion. Plus, we like mixing the wicker of the seating area with the woven of the dining chairs.

Coastal Casual Outdoor Design Scheme C:

In Option C, we went with a casual, traditional all woven seating group that we would do in a taupe wicker with blue cushions. For the coffee and side tables, we chose a faux travertine top with white powder coat metal bases. Next, we paired this with a white, clean lined metal dining table. The French bistro chairs contrast the table and create an interesting mix.

Coastal Casual Outdoor Design Scheme D:

In Option D, we chose a seating group with the teak and rope-like woven material. This material definitely brings the Coastal Casual vibe! We paired this with the white metal tables and faux-travertine tops for contrast. (We don’t want everything to be teak, a mix of materials is always good!) The dining table in this scheme is a teak trestle base. Finally, the dining chairs are a teak and woven material combo with custom fabric seats.

Other considerations:

Teak requires maintenance! This beautiful wood will patina and needs to be treated at least once a year. However, if you want maintenance free, you would do well to avoid teak furniture. Alternatively, you could minimize the amount of teak that you are using in your furnishings to minimize the maintenance.
So, which furniture grouping is your favorite? Love all the curves in Option A? Hate the maintenance of teak? Then you might be better off with Option C.

WE have had a screened in porch with our last two homes totally over 30 years of yearly 9 months of fantatic outdoor living without the bugs or rain etc. Outdoor decks and patios are also wonderful but for Bob and I will always cherish those screened in porch days. Many of your faux wicker pieces replicate what we had. It was specifically for a covered outside area where some of your wonderful selections are truly outdoor pieces. All your choices are way cool for these fortunate clients.

  4. Janet Lorusso says:

All great options for your lucky clients! I have a soft spot for wicker and for bistro chairs, so I automatically gravitate toward A or C if it was for me!

  5. Marina Umali says:

Beautiful selections. I would take them all in addition to warm weather. Yours truly, cold in NorthEast.
