5th And Malcolm-Midwest Makers-According to LiLu

Fifth and Malcolm-Midwest Makers

Here in Minneapolis, we have a wonderful array of creatives and makers, who are doing fresh innovative work in many fields, including in the home building and interior industry. LiLu Interiors is lucky to have such great resources and craftspeople to work with. We often partner with talented artists to create bespoke wall finishes. Imagine our delight when we discovered that some of the artists who we’ve worked with over the years have launched their own line of wall coverings!

Master Artists

5th and Malcolm, Midwest makers, is a consortium of talented artists. Previously you could only access their talents by hiring them for an individual job. Now you can have their talent for your interior project by using their innovative wall coverings.
Check out another Midwest Maker Aronson Woodworks in this post.

Old World Techniques

5th and Malcolm is a line of wall covering that is marrying the old world techniques of plastering, gilding, painting and stenciling with cutting edge digital printing. Every wall covering is handcrafted and depth and interest is added by using a layered technique of digital print below the surface of the hand done work.

Stencil and Digital printing

Patterns like Baby Lynx capture the light with a pearlescent stencil over a metallic digital print. The lush depth that results is astoundingly beautiful. Since, a master artist makes every panel, no two will be exactly alike. 5th and Malcolm are midwest makers who are truly creating magic.

Modern made with Old World Techniques

When we recently met with Sharon Dockter, from Fifth and Malcolm, I was particularly impressed with the patterns that use the old world techniques to create a modern look. Hiawatha is edgy and richly textured. It would look equally comfortable in a urban loft or a modern suburban powder room.

Local Flavor

Bandshell, named, I’m sure for our iconic Harriet Bandshell on the shores of Lake Harriet, is so beautiful. The soft curves are reminiscent of water. It is romantic and modern and would be a wonderful textural background in any room.

High-end Texture

Bryant has a textile-like texture. Seeing the pictures of the artists work on these patterns on their instagram is so fun. It gives you an appreciation of the artistry that goes into making a pattern like Bryant, by using plaster and trowels on the wall covering
Check out all their beautiful patterns on their website here.
