My Bachelorette Pad~ Peek at Project
By Ally Evander, Bachelorette
In my early twenties, I was lucky enough to live with two of my best gal pals for several care-free years. The times were good! The laughs were plentiful. But, as everyone knows, all good things come to an end. Both friends eventually got engaged. To add insult to injury, I was shocked (shocked I tell you!) to learn that their soon-to-be-husbands did not want to live with me. These events began a new chapter in my life; a love affair with a house, a strange and wonderful puppy dog, and that special kind of joy that only good design can bring…. In short, it was the start of a journey toward celebrating my bachelorette-hood.
It all started with a chandelier. My first big splurge. It’s the statement piece of my dining room. When I see it, I think of all I have accomplished and how far I have come. But the object of desire that I spent the most time dreaming about was a custom built cabinet to serve as a statement piece in the living room. I have always enjoyed designing furniture for clients. When the seed of designing and building a custom furniture piece for myself was planted in my brain, there was no stopping its growth. In my free time, for fun, I sketched it a million and one different ways. After years of designing (and saving my pennies) I decided it was time to build! And so I did.
The Frieda cabinet (Yeah, I named it) is the pièce de résistance of my home. It’s my other baby (the first being my puppy dog, Huxtable.) It features touch latch doors, faceted cast bronze door hardware, and shelving for displaying treasured mementos.
To me, this piece of furniture is not only beautiful, but a symbol of having achieved a personal goals. When I walk into my living room with a cup of coffee in the morning, she says to me, “Girl, you’re all right.”
