A Question of Quality – Finishes
By Emily Anderson, Allied Member ASID
This week we are answering the question, "Why does that cost so much?" We're looking at the aspects of quality furniture and why it costs more than retail knock-offs. Yesterday, we talked about construction - the first piece to the puzzle. Today we tackle a colorful counterpart.
One of the most exciting custom advantages of high quality furniture are the finish options. If you are accustomed to shopping retail then you may only be familiar with furniture that comes as shown or maybe offers are a couple of finish options. Ready-made furniture lacks the ability to customize and truly make a piece your own. Trust us, the finish can completely change the character of a piece.
There are many different types of finishes and quality levels within the different techniques, but those are discussions to have with your designer about your specific project and budget. Sometimes one or two finishes are just what you need, but when an added level of detail and perfection is desired, you will will be thrilled to have custom finish options.
